Thanksgiving marks the beginning of the Holiday season. Lately, the Holidays are a mixed bag of emotions. Who doesn't like time off from work and school to spend with family and friends, but the pressure to shop and plan for gatherings is maddening. But the worst part for many is the weight gain. I once read that the average American gains 10 lbs. each Holiday season. Afterward they will lose all but a pound or two by spring. Over a ten year span this can mean an increased body weight of 10-20 lbs.!
The best advice any one could give regarding holiday socializing is moderation. Have a drink but avoid binge drinking. Partake in all the varieties of food that are offered but practice Portion control. This also means being mindful or mindless eating; the snacking that typically occurs before and after the big meal. If all else fails, a good habit to develop is exercising before the big meal. Whether it is a physical or emotional reaction, most will make better choices and eat less if they have exercised the morning before thanksgiving dinner.
Most of all be happy & thankful. We are all so blessed to live in the USA
