Stuart McGill,Professor of Spinal Biomechanics at Waterloo University, calls the loss of glute function "glute amnesia". The rational for this term comes from the hypothesis that the brain and gluteals via some injury have lost their neurological connection. I have made the analogy of the alarm clocks blinking after a power surge. Until you reset the clock the electric is there but the clock doesn't function right. The Cook lift is a simple exercise that can isolate the gluteals and can help with persistent lower back and hip pain, tension in the hip flexor/groin region and some sciatic problems.
This is a good exercise to use in conjunction with stretching and Chiropractic adjustments.
