Quality vs. Quantity- REPS!

A few weeks ago there was an interview of FRED FORNICOLA over at Conditioning Research. Fred's recent blog post though nothing earth shattering, does nail the true essence of High Intensity Training.

Quite often, the quality of a repetition can be lost when a trainee does not connect "mind and muscle". Hoisting a weight up and down will equate to some benefit and more than likely, stroke one's ego but given an opportunity to truly feel the muscle through the entire movement will produce greater gains in muscular and cardiovascular stimulation, reduce shearing forces on the joints and soft tissue and produce one helluva pump.

Fred has started YOUTH FITNESS INSTRUCTOR/TRAINER (YouthFIT™) CERTIFICATION
I may be wrong but this is the first time I have heard of a certification course specifically for training young kids. I have to say it is about time. Having lectured at high school coaches conferences, I can personally attest to the lack of interest in training protocols that limit foot strikes, give the young athlete adequate rest and take into account that kids have physical and emotional limits that need to be considered and respected.
